Embodied Cognitive Science

Embodied cognitive science is an active area of research at Indiana University, Bloomington, involving faculty in Psychology, Informatics, Computer Science and other departments and programs. Researchers at IU view cognition as grounded in the dynamic interaction between an agent's brain, its body and its environment, and they study the ways in which an agent's embodiment can offer both constraints on and opportunities for action. A variety of methodologies are employed in this work, including theoretical, developmental, evolutionary, computational and robotic approaches. Related facilities include a new state-of-the-art laboratory for robotics and computationally-intensive modeling.
